Attach or Combine Remote/Uploaded Files

Are you Looking for a way to attach uploaded files (pictures, documents, etc) or combine an uploaded PDF with your merged document?  Using Data Routing, you can automatically send remote and uploaded files alongside your merged documents.

The setup process is very simple.  For this example we’re going to show you how to include an uploaded PDF file with our Merged PDF.  Let’s jump into the settings page of our Data Route.  On this page, we’ve got our PDF that will be merged selected for Rule #1.

For Rule #2 we’re going to use the uploaded PDF from our online form.  From the Document dropdown, go to the very bottom and you’ll see <<other remote file>>.  Go ahead and select that option.  Next we’re going to type in a merge field for the URL or you can enter a static URL (that's the same URL every time).

After that, we need to jump over to the Delivery tab and add a Delivery option so that we receive all of the files.  This will include them all as attachments or send them over to your cloud storage as well.

That’s it!  Now all you need to do is map the uploaded file to the field you created in the Data Route settings and we’ll automatically download the file from the URL (most online forms will send a URL for the uploaded file) and include it in the merge.  Some example files you can use are PDFs, Word documents, Pictures, Excel, Powerpoint, and many more.

    Hi Jeremy,
Can I merge uploads from Fomstack together with the merged PDF from the same form into one file?

    Hi Robert,

Yes, you can do that! You'll setup a new Rule in your data route for each Formstack file upload field and use a unique merge field for each rule (like {$File1}, {$File2}, etc). Then you can check the box to "Include in Combined PDF" under each rule.

Lastly, you'll need to setup a delivery on your data route so that we can send the combined PDF to you.

    Thanks!

    Jeremy,
My FormStack form has attachments in AWS that need a different password than the password for FormStack. Where on WebMerge do I enter this password? The attachments in AWS are not showing until I enter it, therefore, they are not merging.
    Thanks.

    Hi Andrea,

We need to have a public URL to those files or provide an access token via a URL parameter. You could also setup a Security Group to allow access from WebMerge servers (https://support.webmerge.me/hc/en-us/articles/115005162206-WebMerge-IP-Addresses)

    Hi Jeremy,
Pardon my ignorance but how do I provide an access token via a URL parameter? Is that done on FormStack or on WebMerge? Do you have a step-by-step document I could follow?
    Thank you

    Hi Andrea,

Sorry, after taking another look at the S3 documentation, I don't think the URL parameter will work. I think the only option will be to setup the security group to allow access to the S3 files from our IP addresses.

Thanks for your information. How about setting up a security group to allow access from WebMerge servers. I looked at the link with the server ranges, but how do I allow that access?
    Thanks Jeremy.

    Hi Andrea,

I'm sorry, I'm not 100% sure how you do it, but I believe it's an option in your security group settings (inbound rules). Sorry, AWS is not our system so we're not 100% familiar with how everything works.

    Hi Jeremy,

We have a document library in SharePoint O365 which houses documents we would like to merge. I've created a link which does not require sign-in but the document doesn't merge when I create a new rule. I can deliver my merged document to that library successfully. Is there anything I need to do to allow documents to be merged from SharePoint? I've done it successfully from Stash and Google Drive.

    Thank You

    Hi Gary,

The URL that you use needs to be the "download" URL for the file. More than likely the URL you have is a "preview" HTML page so we're not able to download the file. Can you get the direct download URL?
