Unbounce

Maximizing your marketing funnel can have a drastic impact on your business.  With a tool like Unbounce you can build customized landing pages with A/B testing and other features that will allow you to build the most effective lead generation campaigns.

With an online form on your landing page, you can easily collect leads and send that lead directly to your sales team.  With Formstack Documents, you can also use the lead’s information to automatically populate documents like contracts, letters, and more.

In this example, we’re going to show you how to use Formstack Documents to automatically send a welcome letter to new leads that we collect through our Unbounce form.  We’ll be using Lob to print and mail our letter directly to our lead.

To get started, we’re going to set up the template for our letter using a Word document.  Inside the Word document, we’re going to add our normal letter details and then for the spots that we want to insert our lead’s information, we’re going to add merge fields like {$FirstName}, {$LastName}, {$Address}, etc.

Here’s what our letter template looks like:

Once we have our template ready, we need to upload it to Formstack Documents.  From the Documents page in Formstack Documents, click the New Document button.  Enter a name for the document then on the next step, select Office Document as the document type and pick the file from your computer.

After you upload your template, you’re going to be taken to the Settings tab where you can modify various options like the type of file that is generated and the name of the file.  For this example, we’re going to generate a PDF and we’re going to include the name of our lead in the file name.

Next, we’re going to set up the delivery of our merged documents to Lob so that they are automatically printed and mailed to our lead.  From the Deliver tab, click the New Delivery button and select Lob from the list.  Go ahead and enter your Lob API Key and then select the merge fields for the “To” address.

For the “From” address, you can enter in your real address.  This will put your address on the return label.

Once you setup your Lob delivery, we’re ready to set up the integration with our Unbounce form.  To help with the integration between Unbounce and Formstack Documents, we’re going to use our friends over at Zapier.

Inside Zapier, we’re going to create a New Zap.  For the Trigger, we’re going to choose Unbounce as the service and then New Form Submission as the trigger.

After you authenticate your Unbounce account, Zapier is going to have you set up a webhook for your Unbounce form.  Please follow those steps and make sure you submit the test submission.

Next, we’re going to set up the Action of our Zap.  For the service, choose Formstack Documents and then choose Create Document Merge as the action.

After you authenticate your Formstack Documents account, Zapier is going to load a list of all the documents in your Formstack Documents account.  Go ahead and pick the document that you just setup.  Once you pick the document, Zapier is going to load a list of all the merge fields in your document.

For each of the merge fields in your document, you need to pick the corresponding field from your Unbounce form.  This tells Zapier how to send your data over to Formstack Documents so that the info is populated in the correct spot in your letter.

Once you have matched up all of your merge fields, go ahead and save your Zap then turn it on.  We’re ready for a test!  Go submit another submission to your Unbounce form and Zapier will send that data over to Formstack Documents.  Your letter will be generated and then automatically sent over to Lob for print and mailing.

Here's what our letter looked like ready to mail:

Congrats, you’re all done!  You can now generate all types of documents from your Unbounce form data.  Can you think of any other ways that you can use Formstack Documents to simplify your paperwork process?
